What is Open Source?

Open source software grants its users the following:

• freedom of access to the source code
• freedom to modify the source code
• freedom to run it without paying license or royalty fees
• freedom to copy and redistribute it without paying license or royalty fees

Open source software is often known as Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The Free Software Foundation and the Open Source Initiative.
